Starting this week, several new topics and projects have been started. We have started reading the book White Fang by Jack Londen. This book is a challenging book that relates to life science, human interaction, and ecosystems. We will be integrating this novel into our curriculum.
Also, the students have been grouped and are working on a Human Needs project. The students will be provided with technology resources at school to complete a video about issues in Owensboro. However, the students are also allowed to work outside of school and use their own devices. If they use their own device to edit, or create their video they are allowed to bring those devices into school to continue their work. The device will need to be brought to me first thing in the morning. I will allow the students to use their device during classtime, and then they will surrender their device again until the end of the day. At the end of the school day, the students may pick up their devices to take home.
The students are also allowed to use their device to read the story White Fang as well. The same rule applies, and I will hold the devices in my room. In any case, the devices will NOT have access to internet connection while in our school building. Any content that is necessary for the students to have will need to be accessed prior to entering the school building.
The ideas that the students have for their video projects are INCREDIBLE!! I am so proud of their ideas and cannot wait to see what the final projects look like. If anyone has any questions about the project, feel free to contact me. Have a great week!
