10/23

Starting this week, several new topics and projects have been started.  We have started reading the book White Fang by Jack Londen.  This book is a challenging book that relates to life science, human interaction, and ecosystems.  We will be integrating this novel into our curriculum.

Also, the students have been grouped and are working on a Human Needs project.  The students will be provided with technology resources at school to complete a video about issues in Owensboro.  However, the students are also allowed to work outside of school and use their own devices.  If they use their own device to edit, or create their video they are allowed to bring those devices into school to continue their work.  The device will need to be brought to me first thing in the morning.  I will allow the students to use their device during classtime, and then they will surrender their device again until the end of the day.  At the end of the school day, the students may pick up their devices to take home.

The students are also allowed to use their device to read the story White Fang as well.  The same rule applies, and I will hold the devices in my room.  In any case, the devices will NOT have access to internet connection while in our school building.  Any content that is necessary for the students to have will need to be accessed prior to entering the school building.

The ideas that the students have for their video projects are INCREDIBLE!!  I am so proud of their ideas and cannot wait to see what the final projects look like.  If anyone has any questions about the project, feel free to contact me.  Have a great week!

10/14

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a great break!  Today, the students received their test back that they took from before Fall Break.  They, as always, are required to get it signed tonight, no matter what grade they received.  This test was an open book, open note test taken over two school days, with 9 bonus points built in.  Please let me know if you have any questions about it.  Some of my classes had enough time to go over the test today, however there were several that will go over the test tomorrow.

Have a great Monday!

9/9

Here is the newsletter that discussed the activity we did in class.

Our first test is behind us!  Overall, the students did very well.  After they received their tests back, they are required to get the tests signed.  This is so you are aware of their grade and are able to track their progress.

We are moving onto Ch. 14 this week.  We will move quickly through this unit, as we covered a lot of the foundation during our Ch. 13 conversations.  As always, if you have any questions, please let me know!

8/26 update

I have pushed the "Final Fact Sheet" due date to 9/3 (next Tuesday).  The students can use the extra weekend to make sure their answers are as complete as possible.

This week, we will continue working on matter.  We will expand to talking about volume, physical properties and chemical properties.

As a reminder, the Decorated Box is still due on 8/30.

If any parents need to meet with all 4 teachers for Parent-Teacher conferences, please email me.  We are staying on September 10 & 11 until 6:30p.m.  We will do our best to accomodate all schedules.

Have a great week!
